The holiday season is here again and I have been thinking some abount my new year resolutions.

First, I want to blog more Technology blogging. Letting you know what is going down on the Kenyan web scene.
I think this year I have written enough about my self, our country and of course my job. Next year I want to set web trendd in this country by being the first to review, explain and propose.
For starters, I love the new wordpress admin look. But i have it too! It is completely slow and almost unusable! it takes forever to load yet my download speen is high – extremely high. I doubt this thing could open in a cyber cafe.
I think the makers of wordpress should not ahve assumed that everyone now has faster internet. I have it and the new admin panel is still slow!

yes it is here and as per expectations – am high.
Yes i am, and to make matters worse better, am in my office making this posting on my blog. It has been a good December, just finished one of my biggest projects and the check should be coming any day now.
Earlier this week we had our annuat unit retreat and I had a chance to interact wiht team members from as far away as Asia – we really are a globa l company!
Back to my main story – am high. am high because the annual end-of-year party is going on as we speak and we are loving it! just jumped back to the office to make a quick call and then jump right back into the party. they are announcing the winners of the raffles now but htere are too many peple who are too high and they are having to making countless calls.
I want to wish all readers a mery christmas and a successful new year.
Hoping to make new resolutions this end of year. I didn’t make none last year. Don’t know why!
Nest year i pray that God bless the work of my hands. that he give me the grace to gain wealth. i pray for grace and glory. That God will give me his grace that the devil qill have nothing over me. that he will give me his glory that I may shine bright.
hope to make my first million. Hope to make my first foray out of the continent. I thank you lord becuase of the promises you ahce given me.
looking back; it has been a great year. I switched jobs in october and am settling in quite nicely. This was hte year that God really really blessed me financially and personally.
- bought my laptop
- got the job I hoped to get in two years time
- got my driving licence
- moved out – into my own house
- made my first six digit salary
- made my first six-digit deal
even as I end the year I ahve so much to thank God for
- that i know him and fear him
- that I know that am not perfect
- that i have a good girl that we love one another
- that my family relations are ok
- that I dont have debts
- that am healthy and full of good cheer
- that I know that this list cannot be exhaustive.
it has been well. its gonna get better.
am looking forward to the best year that God has for me next; followed by an even ore blessed year.

Given it was the first website in Kenya to be advertised ont he front page of the country’s leading newspaper. that is a success for all of us web industry professionals.
So i’ve been checking it out there really isn’ t much to say for zuqka.com
First – it went down in its very first day – imagine that! and wiht the advertisng on the front page of the nation daily newspaper and a 16-page pullout! I bet the manager at nation who negotiated the deal is in hot water as we speak.
Then its stayed down for some days. Sorry no screen shots but we all got to know that they use the Centos Operationg system whose websites is bla bla bla and support can be acquired from …..
It gets scary when even the place holder crashes. The messsge they had that “This party is not yet started; leave your email and we will inform you when it starts”. even that crashed!!
Now it seems that their party has strated and well … there isn’t much to it. They have made an interesting implementation of drupal with the blogging module and an aggregator from blogs that has a tendency to loeave you hanging. That, not nice!
Content might become a serious issue for these guys. Its will be really really difficult to convince the Nation Media group to let them host their content. Most companies have very serious policies on hosting of content and I cant wait to see what options Zuqka will explore. The other option is to agregate from feeds all over the place and that raises countless issues. they will have to link to the source of the feeds – the blogs, news sites etc. That lowers their page rank. They will post content that has been previosly been posted elsewhere on the web and that will build the profile of the original poster of the content.
i think zuqka will find it hard to compete with haiya.co.ke.
I think that natioon is already thinking about how to implement its own Zuqka.com alternative.

I checked out that guy’s links and what he got is pretty different from what I went through. The suffering is the same though … as is the lack of commitment to helping
For those from mars, in Kenya, less than 2% of us have visa credit cards. Am not in the top 2% and therefore I don’t have one. if i was in the top 2% I’d not be looking for service from hostgator but rather sun bathing in the Caribbean. If you want to make a payment online – you use a payment service provider who gives you a ridiculous exchange rate and then charges you a direct 15% premium. but if you hope to make your cash online – you just have to to the line.
this guy waited ton the line for nine minutes [cross-Atlantic call] – we should have a beer together; I waited for seven
So I go ahead and call HostGator and get the next piece of good news…it’s a minimum seven-minute wait to talk to a customer service rep

To cut long story short – the payment was made and I was able to log in easy. and then transferred two of my domains. Come the next day and the hosting account had been suspended. So I spent the day calling them – ‘confirming my account’ Couldn’t they have required confirmation prior to setting up the account? did I do something to make me require ‘confirmation’. Ii promise you that you don’t want to know the price of calling US of A from a mobile in Kenya! the hustle became to long and i had to re-order.
this time the order went through but now three months later, the account has been suspended again. no email, no communication from hostgator – just get the hell out here! Needless am disappointed by them and sort of hate the fact that I had to go to them in the first place!
The best deal in the world isn’t worth it if the support is the worst in the world!
So, as I sit here, my account is still suspended and hostgator is still not talking to me.
